SNP makes healthy living fun for students and easy for parents

Promoting healthy food choices and active lifestyles to the children of Garland,Summer Nutrition Program is now opened for 2011 and offering free lunches, snacks and activities at various locations around the city.

Sponsored by the Texas Department of Agriculture, SNP enables statewide school lunch programs to operate in the summer thanks to local sponsors such as school districts, churches, YMCAs and summer camps. The sites of participating sponsors serve as a summer meeting place for students up to 18 years old serving them nutritious meals for no cost.

This will be the 16th year that Garland has participated. 17 sites around the city opened last week on June 6th and are now offering free lunches, snacks and activities to students until August 5. Today, June 13th, 4 more sites opened. The new sites are Axe Memorial United Methodist Church, Saturn Road Church of Christ, The Foundry Church and Iglesia Pentecostes Monte de Sion, Inc.

Garland is proud to be a part of a program that provides students with some summer fun with their classmates and peace of mind for parents as they can save money and still know that their kids are getting a healthy meal in a safe, educationaland nurturing environment. NOTE: Roscon Foundation supported this program with Maharlika Danders U.S.A. (Merna Parco) and the City of Garland Multicultural Commission. (Jennifer Nguyen).
